In the late 1980s, two college professors from ASU set about interviewing elderly women in nursing homes. Here they describe their lives in Arizona. This was an amazing account of how women lived at the turn of the last century. I cannot even imagine living here without air conditioning, yet these women did without as well as with most of our modern day amenities. There is even a section that contains black & white pictures from that time.
It is really something to read about how these women worked, changed history, and made do with what they had. There is a portion on how one woman drove cattle from Broadway Rd. in Tempe to Phoenix. Nowadays that area is covered in strip malls and business parks. This book provides a great glimpse back in history.
